Setup is Underway
The production crew arrived in Monterey yesterday. Most of the equipment arrived before we did and was waiting for us at the office of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Unfortunately a few pieces have not arrived, and we've bene anxiously working with the shipping company to see if they will be delivered today. By the end of the day, all of the video gear was here, but we are still waiting for the box that contains the power supply for the remotely-operated vehicle.
We spent most of the day setting up our equipment on the R/V Fulmar. The lab area now contains two large video equipment racks and an audio board that will be used in the production of the live broadcasts. I've posted some pictures of the setup.
Today we were supposed to follow the same schedule we'll use on broadcast days, which meant getting up before 5:00 am in order to be on the Fulmar by 6:00. Today we'll be doing a technical rehearsal with the goal of assuring that everything is set up properly. We'll have divers in the water briefly to make sure we can see video from cameras underwater, and that our video is being recieved at the production center in Rhode Island, 3000 miles away.
Stay tuned. We're doing more rehearsals tomorrow, and the live shows start Sunday, March 2.
