Expedition Role: Rick Panlilio is the Commanding Officer of the NR-1. During the expedition, he will direct the submarine crew in driving and diving the sub to explore the area in and around the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. He has been driving many types of submarines for 14 years and has been a Navy scuba diver for 13 years. He has dived in the ocean as deep as 5,000 ft (1,524 m).
