John Jensen

Dr. Jensen is historian and nautical archaeologist whose research focuses on the social processes, material culture, and landscapes of the North America's maritime frontiers. John's work spans the frontier processes of the Western North Atlantic, the Great Lakes and Mississippi Valley, and Alaska. Raised as commercial fisherman in Alaska, he has a special research and teaching interest in fishers and fishing, both past and present.
John is on the faculty of the Sea Education Association at Woods Hole where he teaches maritime studies and ocean science and public policy. John's students experience the sea first in the classroom and in 6 week voyages on board SEA's sailing oceanographic vessels.
